Yilmaz - The Little Boy of Istanbul
It was at the end of a day of photographing the beauty of the city of Istanbul that I came upon a little boy of nine or ten years old shining shoes by the Mosque. He worked with the dexterity and skill of an old man. I had never seen a child work as hard as this before.
I watched for a little while, unnoticed by him, and then I knelt down and asked, “how much for a shoe shine?”

It was his eyes you see,
That captured me,
The beauty and
The fear.

In a city of 15 million, I came to find one soul. I don’t know his name. I don’t know his address. I don’t even speak his language. I only know the place where I found him once.
And he is not there now.
I am searching for the little boy of Istanbul.
