Mosque Against the Sky

What would a site about Istanbul be without photographs of the mosques? This was the city where I first saw the mosques. Listening to the call to prayer five times a day only added to the mysticism of the city. The architecture of the mosques is beautiful. In every direction one looks, the skyline of the city is scattered with outlines of the architecture of the mosques.
Inside the Hagia Sofia – the first mosque I went into, I experienced the true meaning of the word “awesome”. Such greatness and beauty and history entered my being and transported me to the realm of the sublime; the high vaulted ceilings covered with the exquisite tiles and frescoes, the marble and granite columns, the arched windows, the ironwork, the mightiness, the holiness of this place once of worship.
The flash file below was from another site I had made that included my photography from other cities of the world. This was the interior celing of the Hagia Sophia.

But this mosque I found was situated along the Bosphorous, near the Dolmabahçe Palace. As the sun or the moon poked its face from behind the clouds, I captured the image. I had just finished a full day bus tour of the city of Istanbul and alone with my camera, I began walking in the direction of Eminönü. I was a huntress armed with a camera in search of visions.
