Building collapses in Istanbul
One person is dead when the first floor ceiling of a 4 storey building caved in Istanbul on Tuesday. Two people were trapped beneath the wreckage, it was reported. The building collapse occurred in the Sancaktepe neighborhood of the Asian side of the city. Sancaktepe is a low income area in the city.
One man was killed and another was rescued, having endured injuries.
The mayor of Sancaktepe, Ismail Erdem said the ceiling had collapsed while the brothers were doing repairs in the building.
This story follows an incorrect report that a six storey building had collapsed in Istanbul leaving several persons injured. Television video reports had shown police and rescue workers trying to pull out one of the trapped people.
